the saga continues
We are on our way to the east coast. Instead of our sailboat contrail we are traveling in our blue van, pulling a trailer with a dinghy atop it. Tom has been offered a permanent position at PATS Aircraft so we are going to give it a shot. We are sad not to be going on our trip, but excited to going back to Delaware.
We left Georgetown Friday around lunchtime, and made it as far as Texarkana. Today we drove through Arkansas and Tennessee.
In Memphis, visited the giant Elvis and B.B. King statues, and rode the streetcar to Beale Street. There was a music festival in full swing on the riverside, but I didn't recognize the band that was playing. Next we passed a series of tempting looking art galleries and warehouse lofts in various stages of construction and sale. Memphis has a lively tourist district and throngs of people were everywhere, but there were too many on Beale Street. We got off the streetcar one stop later and ate an elegant but not too expensive place called the Majestic. It was a short walk back to the visitor center. There seems to be an art deco influence in Memphis that I really like.
Next time we're here I would like to take the tram to Mud Island, visit the zoo, look for Elvis artifacts, and investigate whatever is in that giant pyramid.
We're staying the night in Union City Tennessee, near the Kentucky border. Next up are Kentucky, West Virgina, and Maryland. I don't know exactly how many days it will take but so far things are going well.
cheers, Dana
